Anna Jane Joyner to Speak to Lake Chatuge GreenFaith Team
September 16, 2014 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pmFree
Emmy Award Winner Anna Jane Joyner, Campaign Coordinator for the Western North Carolina Alliance, will be the featured speaker at the September 16th meeting of the Lake Chatuge GreenFaith Team at the Community Room of the Hayesville United Methodist Church.
Anna Jane had a major role in “Years of Living Dangerously”, Showtimes’ Emmy award winning documentary. She has been a tireless worker in the Asheville area’s efforts to limit use of coal in utilities and the promotion of environmental efforts, particularly in area churches.
Graduating from the University of North Carolina with a B.A. in Rhetoric and Environmental Studies, Anna Jane has worked with the Sierra Club to promote environmental solutions across faith communities, co-authoring “Faith in Action,” a national report, as well as coaching activists on strategic partnership building. In 2008, she co-founded and served as the national coordinator for Renewal, a non-profit that equips college students to lead environmental efforts on faith-based campuses.
More recently at Restoring Eden, a faith-based environmental advocacy non-profit, Anna Jane led a national campaign to end the tragedy of mountaintop removal coal mining, an issue she remains deeply committed to owing to her love of the Appalachian Mountains and culture.
In 2012, she co-founded WNC Green Congregations, a network of faith communities in WNC working together to protect our planet and all who depend on it, an organization much like the Lake Chatuge GreenFaith Team.
Anna Jane is proud to have grown up in the Appalachian Mountains. Combating the climate crisis and moving beyond dirty, destructive coal is her life’s work and greatest passion.
The meeting is free and will start at 7pm and conclude at 8:30 with dessert and coffee. All concerned western North Carolina and north Georgia churches, individuals and organizations are welcomed. Call Jim McMichael at 850-445-3881 or write firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
