Climate Conversations: The State of Climate Change Science and Policy

May 6, 2013 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The second evening of St. Francis of Assisi’s “Community Conversation on Climate Change” will include a conversation with Tim Profeta, Director, Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions, Duke University and Bill Chameides, Dean and Professor, The Nicholas School of the Environment, Duke University. They will discuss:

The science documenting climate change has been rapidly growing in the last several years. What is the latest scientific consensus on climate change? What implications does that have for taking action to limit carbon emissions? Where is there still uncertainty?

Policy responses to climate change are widely seen as lagging behind the science. What are the factors causing the difficulty for American politicians in proposing policy to address climate change? What are the main policies being proposed at the national and state levels and what are their pros and cons?
