Coal Ash Stories in Durham

A film screening of four short films focused on coal ash, public health concerns, and ways that communities are responding is taking place across the state. The NC Conservation Network is co-sponsoring these film screenings.
As you may know, there has been a lot going on with coal ash in North Carolina since the February spill of over 30,000 tons of coal ash into North Carolina’s Dan River. Duke Energy has 14 coal ash sites across NC that are currently in dangerous unlined ponds beside important bodies of water.
Clean water advocates in NC have for years been calling on legislators and Duke Energy to more safely store coal ash waste, the toxic sludge left over from burning coal.
It is time for people to take a stand and demand that North Carolina’s toxic coal ash ponds be cleaned up! This is a great way to learn more about this issue and find out what you can do to take action.
