So often as faith leaders and those committed to working for justice in a social and political climate where HOPE is less easy to harness than FEAR, and where society is becoming desensitized with each resurgence of terror — we, ourselves, are also growing weary. (All hands raised??)
We continue to show-up, because we know that showing-up is more than half the battle. I know that sometimes when I show-up I look around the room, shake hands, take good action, enjoy conversation, but somehow leave a space, and on the drive home wish that I was taking “a little more” home with me, or had offered “a little more” of myself to those I encountered.
Showing up is half of everything, but it isn’t everything.
is an opportunity to take one step closer… I find that relationships are the true inspiration behind action, and that action brings us one step closer to relationship. Relationships with those for whom we are advocating, relationships among those we stand or march beside, and relationships with those even to whom we direct our actions.
is a place for faith and justice leaders to take one step closer…to listen as only we can to one another’s stories, and to collectively imagine a new story. This is not another coalition formed around “an issue”; none of us needs another group asking us to do
something. Shpeak invites authenticity, and intimacy, and hopefully a soft place to land at the end of one more long day under the ever-bending arc. And
