The Great Invisible – Screening and Discussion

July 23, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

In January, the Obama Administration announced a draft drilling plan that includes opening up the North Carolina coast offshore drilling. In an effort to educate the public about the risks associated with offshore oil exploration, Environment North Carolina, NCIPL, Carteret County Crossroads, and the Sierra Club Croatan Group are hosting a free showing of The Great Invisible.

The Great Invisible documents the fallout of the disaster providing first-hand accounts of from Gulf coast community members ongoing experience with the fall out from the Deepwater Horizon explosion, which killed 11 people, and caused the largest offshore oil spill in American history. The spill flowed unabated for almost three months, dumping hundreds of millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic ocean, shutting down the local fishing industry, polluting the fragile ecosystem, and raising serious questions about the safety of continued deep-water offshore drilling.

The event will start at 7pm and is free and open to everyone!
