The Great Invisible
August 8, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Free
In January, the Obama Administration announced a draft-drilling plan that includes opening up the North Carolina coast to offshore drilling. In an effort to educate the public about the risks associated with offshore oil exploration, Environment North Carolina, Care of Creation Care Sunday School Class at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, and 350 Triangle are hosting a free showing of The Great Invisible.
The Great Invisible documents the fallout of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion, providing first-hand accounts from Gulf coast community member’s ongoing experience with the disaster, which killed 11 people, and caused the largest offshore oil spill in American history. The spill flowed unabated for almost three months, dumping hundreds of millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, shutting down the local fishing industry, polluting the fragile ecosystem, and raising serious questions about the safety of continued deep-water offshore drilling.
Join us for a free public showing of The Great Invisible. Q&A will follow.
